Welcome
to Zittau
In the middle of Europe, in the border triangle of Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic, Zittau is an insider tip when it comes to studying. The town of 27,000 inhabitants surrounded by the Zittau Mountains is cosy — and its location makes it truly international. You’ll be just a few minutes away from neighbouring Poland and the Czech Republic — and only 80 miles from Prague or 120 miles from Wrocław.
The old cloth-making town of Zittau has a rich history. The City Hall rises imposingly into the sky, the seven-story Salt House, the former Franciscan monastery, the Fleischerbastei bastion, and many old churches form the “Zittau Culture Trail” — a journey of discovery even for locals.
When it comes to partying, there’s the DeziBar and the Star Club — offering pretty much any style of music. Beers from small breweries in the neighbouring countries are to be found at Vinyl, and you’ll quickly discover the charming little stores in the Czech Republic and Poland.
Of course, classical music is also an option here, for example in the academic choir of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and the International University Institute. You can even find culture at lunchtime here: The canteen also sells theatre tickets!
The annual Neisse Film Festival is Germany’s only three-country festival of its kind, where art and culture bring people together. The theatres (and more) have transcended borders with great ideas such as a trinational theatre subscription for Zittau, Liberec, and Jelenia Góra. Want to be part of it? Welcome to Zittau!
