University of Applied Sciences of the Saxon Police
Two study locations, one goal: taking responsibility.
At the University of Applied Sciences of the Saxon Police, you are not only prepared for demanding assignments, but also for a career with real prospects in the police service of the Free State of Saxony. The only degree programme, Police Service, follows a dual structure and lasts six semesters. Your foundation studies take place in Bautzen, while the main programme is taught at the modern campus in Rothenburg/Oberlausitz – Germany’s easternmost small town, located directly on the border with Poland. Surrounded by natural floodplain landscapes and close to the UNESCO World Heritage Muskau Park, the campus offers peace, community, and an active club life – far from the hustle and bustle of big cities.
From day one, you are right at the heart of it: as soon as your studies begin, you will be appointed as a Police Commissioner Candidate – with civil servant status on revocation, free healthcare, and attractive remuneration from the very start. The programme combines a solid mix of law, operational management, police information systems, leadership studies, traffic sciences and operational training – including sports, self-defence, and firearms instruction. Several practical placements at police stations complement the curriculum, giving you first-hand operational experience.
Direct entry into the programme is possible under certain conditions – but typically, the career path begins with training as a Police Constable. With outstanding performance, you can then advance to the bachelor’s degree. After successfully completing your studies, you will be appointed as a Police Commissioner on probationary civil servant status.
The University of Applied Sciences of the Saxon Police is a key pillar of the Free State’s modern training system. Even after graduation, a wide range of career opportunities open up: from patrol service to special units and investigative teams, all the way to leadership positions – for example as head of a local police station, lecturer, or, later in your career, even in top offices such as the Saxon Police Headquarters.
