Your plan

1. Get some inspiration
Not yet sure what to study? No problem, you’re not alone. The first step towards finding your direction is to find inspiration. Talk to your friends, family and people who are already studying – these conversations often provide valuable input and new perspectives. For some initial insights, you can also take a look at our university profiles and other video clips of Saxony’s universities.
University YouTube channels
Fairs, information events and discussions with student advisors at universities can also help you find your way. Get support from those around you and discover what really interests you.
2. Know yourself
Choosing a degree programme starts with identifying your own strengths and abilities. Sometimes that’s not so easy. It is important to ask yourself the right questions. Perhaps our short checklist will help you:
- What do I like to do?
- What am I really good at?
- What motivates and inspires me?
- How do I deal with stress?
- Am I more of an extrovert or introvert?
- How important is success to me?
- What is my favourite way to spend my free time?
- What things am I passionate about?
- What qualities do others value in me?
- How do I deal with challenges and setbacks?
If you’re still unsure, why not try a personality test? This can also help you to identify your strengths and abilities.
3. Find out what is important to you
Think about which aspects are particularly important to you – whether it’s the size of the university, the programme content or the career opportunities after graduation. This list will help you to define your priorities more clearly:
- Programme content:
Would you prefer a practice-oriented degree programme with a lot of applied knowledge (university of applied sciences or Saxony Cooperative State University) or are you more interested in a deep theoretical examination of your subject area (university)? Which focal points and specialisations are important to you? - Size of the university:
Would you like to study at a small, informal university where you might know all the lecturers personally, or would you prefer the diversity and large networks of a big university? - Study organisation and flexibility:
Is a flexible timetable that allows you to work or complete internships alongside your studies important to you? Or do you prefer a clear structure and fixed times? - Campus life and leisure activities:
Do you value an active campus life with lots of clubs, events and leisure activities? Or are you looking for somewhere with fewer distractions and more focus on your academic work?
