All about
your studies
So you’ve decided to study in Saxony. Your university, university, academy or college of fine arts, university of applied sciences, or university of cooperative education awaits. You’ll attend courses, study, and take exams. You’ll expand your knowledge and gain more and more skills and make full use of what your degree programme has to offer. But you will also find things to do away from the lecture halls that will enrich and facilitate your student life in Saxony.
The International Offices
The International Office is an important point of contact for international students. The staff will help you find answers to questions about your application, show you language courses, and know exactly what options are available for international students at your university. Good examples of this are the International Offices at TU Dresden and Leipzig University. These provide special programmes for displaced persons and refugees, for example.

The Studierendenwerke
The German National Association for Student Affairs (Deutsches Studierendenwerk) was founded in Dresden in 1921. At the time, the focus was on easing economic hardship after the First World War. Today the Studierendenwerke (Student Services) provide specific support with university catering, housing, student finance, childcare, counselling and intermediary services, and culture. You can find out which Studierendenwerk to contact if you have any questions here.
Staying fit with university sports
Sport may be strenuous, but it is also a great way to unwind after sitting in lecture halls or libraries and studying. Sporting activities not only promote health, they also help you maintain a clear mind and can have a positive impact on community spirit.
Are you a fan of a particular sport or would you like to use your study time to try out new sporting activities? The sports programmes offered by the universities in the Free State of Saxony are just the thing for you. We can’t list them all here, but Leipzig University, for example, offers a range of activities from aikido to handball and heels dance to windsurfing and zumba.
Cultural activities for students
Are you a fan of the fine arts, do you love visiting galleries, would you like to make music alone or with others or express yourself as an author alongside your studies? Then Saxony’s student culture programme is perfect for you.
You can find numerous options at Dresden Student Services, for example. Why not take a break from your everyday technical studies with an art course? You can even exhibit your works in the STUWERTINUM gallery. The TUSCULUM student house offers small and large music rehearsal rooms.
Good to know
Always keep your student ID card on hand. It gives you discounts at many museums and leisure facilities in Saxony.
