Conquer the
campus

Before you start your degree programme, you should take the time to get to know the campus, your new town or city and, of course, your fellow students. Saxony’s universities offer a wide range of activities especially for first-semester students – from orientation weeks and information events to campus tours and welcome days. This will help you quickly find your way around seminar rooms, lecture theatres and canteens. And the best part? You will get to meet other students right away.

The university library is also an important place to visit when you start your studies. For example, the Saxon State and University Library in Dresden (SLUB) is one of the largest in Germany. Introductory sessions are offered to show you how to find, borrow and use academic literature.

Of course, it’s also worth checking out the canteen, where you can enjoy a variety of freshly cooked dishes at fair prices – vegetarian or vegan options are often available too.

University sports activities provide the necessary balance to your studies: whether yoga, Zumba, volleyball, rowing or hiking – the classes are affordable, varied and often take place in beautiful surroundings. Work out with a view of the Elbe, paddle across the White Elster river or go straight from your lectures into the countryside. You can try out many sports without any previous experience – and new friendships are almost guaranteed.

Want to develop your creative or linguistic skills? Many universities also offer music ensembles such as choirs, orchestras or bands that you can join or simply listen to. There are also language courses, conversation groups and tandem programmes – perfect for learning languages and meeting students from all over the world.
